Unplanned pregnancy - Adoption

Adoption is a way of providing a new family for a child when living with their own family is not possible.  If you're uncomfortable with the idea of abortion and your circumstances make parenting very difficult at this time, adoption can be a very positive option. It's a sacrifice you make for your baby, but one from which you benefit too.

Give yourself some time to really think about whether adoption could be a positive choice for your baby and for you, rather than just dismissing the idea. You want to make a decision that you will be able to live with now and into the future. Perhaps it would help to find out more information to be able to make an informed choice.

Family Support Centre can provide you with information about the process and help you through it if that is your decision.

What do I need to think about as I make a decision?

You might well feel grief and a sense of loss if giving up your child for adoption.  It can feel a life-long process, at times feeling guilty for not being able to parent your child.

  • Studies show that most baby adoptions work out happily.
  • Through adoption you could choose for your child to be placed with a father and mother if that is important to you.
  • You can say what sort of people you would like to have as parents for your child.
  • Your child would have a Life Story Book that tells them background information about you and possibly their father.

Family Support Centre is here to support you as you consider adoption. We are here for you through the whole process - the decision making, the pregnancy and the adoption itself. This support can continue for as long as you want.

A phone call to our helpline 0121 744 8838 is all it takes to enquire.
